How it works
When staff add products to the cart in Shopify POS:- Products with available subscription selling plans show the Subscriptions tile as enabled on the smart grid
- Tapping the tile opens a modal showing all subscription-eligible items in the cart
- Staff select a subscription plan for each item or remove a previously applied plan
- When the customer completes checkout with Shopify Payments, the subscription contract is created
Requirements
POS enrollment requires:- Shopify POS 10.15 or later — Older POS versions cannot display or use the Subscriptions tile
- Shopify Payments enabled — Selling plans at checkout require Shopify Payments as the payment processor
- Products published to POS — Subscription plans must be attached to products that are published to the Shopify POS sales channel
- Appfox Subscriptions installed — The merchant must have installed and configured Appfox Subscriptions in their Shopify admin
Adding the tile to POS
After installing Appfox Subscriptions, merchants must add the Subscriptions tile to their POS smart grid:- Open Shopify POS and tap More (three dots)
- Tap Settings
- Tap Smart grid
- Find Appfox Subscriptions in the available tiles
- Drag the tile onto the smart grid
- Tap Save
Staff workflow
Once the tile is added, staff can enroll customers at the register:- Add products to the cart as usual
- If the Subscriptions tile is enabled, tap it
- A modal shows all cart items with available subscription plans
- Tap a plan to apply it to the line item
- If a plan is already applied, tap Remove subscription to remove it
- Close the modal and complete checkout
Limitations
- Subscription-only products — Shopify POS does not support products that require a selling plan (one-time purchase is always allowed at the register)
- Plan eligibility — Only selling plans marked as SUBSCRIPTION category are shown. PRE_ORDER and TRY_BEFORE_YOU_BUY plans are not supported in POS
- Payment processor — Subscription enrollment at the register requires Shopify Payments. Third-party payment gateways cannot process selling plans in POS
